County Judges and Commissioners from across the Lone Star State are invited to San Marcos Oct. 21-24 for the 102nd Annual Conference of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas. The V.G. Young Institute of County Government, a part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, will serve as the education co-sponsor of the conference, hosted by the Hays County Commissioners Court.
Tuesday’s Opening General Session will include presentations on working with the Texas Legislature and lawmaking. Later in the day, a full slate of classes will cover risk management/infrastructure safety, county roads and related Commissioners Court regulations, strategic transportation planning, and personnel policies.
Social activities will allow for plenty of opportunities to fellowship with your peers including the President’s Party and Exhibitor Appreciation Night on Monday and Hays County’s Host Court Night on Tuesday. Wednesday will feature the Luncheon Banquet followed by leisure activities including 42, cornhole, a sporting clay shoot, and the Bobby Smith Memorial Golf Tournament.
Continuing Education
Approval for 17 hours of continuing education credit for County Commissioners is pending. The County Judges Education Advisory Committee has approved four hours of judicial education credit for Tuesday afternoon’s Judicial Education Session. County Judges may also receive credit (nonjudicial) toward Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum certification by attending designated sessions.
COMMISSIONERS COURT ADVANCED CURRICULUM
The conference agenda includes 16 hours of Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum coursework, as designated by the blue logos on the accompanying agenda. Advanced Curriculum completion certificates will be awarded Wednesday during the Luncheon Banquet.
