Kaufman County boasts of the best all-around festivals in the state including the Heritage Jubilee, North Texas Antique Tractor & Engine Club’s Show, and 4th of July festivities. We are also home to the Cotton Fest each September, the Scarecrow Festival & Parade in October, and the Turkey Tax Auto Show in November. Additionally, every Kaufman County town hosts Christmas festivals or parades.
Kaufman County has a rich history and strong patriotism. There are beautiful streets with historic homes in Kaufman, Terrell and Forney, and around Christmas some are decorated and open for touring. Kaufman, the county seat, is home to the Kaufman County Veterans Memorial and to the Vietnam Memorial Wall of Texas (a 4/5th replica of the Wall in D.C.), while Terrell is putting the finishing touches on a Terrell memorial.
Venture out to bike and walking trails and historical marker tours throughout the county, and lose yourself in the history of Kaufman County at our local museums, including the Carnegie Museum and the #1 British Flying Training School. Coming soon is the Forney Historic Preservation League’s Spellman Museum of Forney History, a restoration and preservation project set in downtown which will offer history, education, and genealogy services.
