North and East Conference Highlights

North and East Texas county officials left this year’s annual conference well versed in the lessons of leadership including the value of vision, planning, attitude and trust.
Some 115 county judges and commissioners convened in Plano June 19-22 for the North and East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association 2006 Annual Education Conference and Business Meeting.
Touted as a first-class conference by many, officials were treated to energetic speakers, a variety of breakout classes covering varied topics, and social events giving everyone an opportunity to discuss common issues.
County judges and commissioners were encouraged to not only provide strong leadership on the home front, but in Austin as well via an education quest targeting state lawmakers who will convene again in January.
“We’ve got a big education job between now and January,” said Jim Allison, general counsel to the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas.
Sen. Florence Shapiro, R-Plano, Rep. Jim Jackson, R-Carrollton, and Rep. Dan Flynn, R-Canton, were on hand to review the recent legislative action regarding school funding and upcoming legislative issues.
