Lime Association of Texas

Lime Association of Texas Offers Educational Opportunities

The Lime Association of Texas (LAT) is always available to conduct educational seminars and workshops focusing on the proper use of lime.
The LAT Board of Directors long ago identified education as one of the primary activities to be conducted by the Association. Over the last several years the LAT has used many venues to educate hundreds of public and private professionals about the proper use of lime. These venues include speaking at conferences for professional groups such as American Society of Civil Engineers, Texas Association of County Engineers and Road Administrators, and Texas Public Works Association. We also conduct full-day or half-day workshops throughout the state. By tailoring each workshop to meet the specific interests for a designated group and area, attendees are assured that the information put forth is relevant to their needs. One-hour brown bag lunches for consulting firms and public/private sector entities are another popular choice. They are usually conducted during a lunch hour or prior to the beginning of the work day and have proven to be an effective avenue for technology transfer. PDH certificates are available for each type of workshop.
Available educational topics include:
the importance of subgrade preparation for proper pavement performance;
the chemistry behind how lime works;
understanding the differences between modification and stabilization;
design considerations; and
quality control and inspection procedures.
Speakers participating on the programs have included industry professionals, TxDOT engineers, testing lab/consulting engineers, equipment manufacturers and university professors. The LAT is especially fortunate to have Mr. Eric Berger, P.E., from Chemical Lime Company and Dr. Dallas Little, P.E., from Texas A&M University as lecturers. Both Mr. Berger and Dr. Little are renowned experts in the use of lime for soil stabilization and have been available for some of these important training efforts.
The LAT is ready to schedule a workshop or brown bag session for you! To arrange your session, contact Larry Peirce at either 512-633-1130 or lwpeirce@austin.rr.com

Three members of ROMCO Equipment Company’s product support team took first place for the Central Region at Volvo Construction Equipment’s Master Cup competition in San Antonio.
The annual event pits three-man teams of Master Guild-level mechanics and parts personnel from various dealerships in several rounds of timed diagnostics and repair on various pieces of heavy equipment.
With the win, the ROMCO team of Hector Gautier (Master Guild Parts), Jeremy Carter (Master Guild Service), and Kenneth Tippit (Master Guild Service) advanced to the national competition in Asheville, N.C., scheduled for early this month. All three will represent ROMCO’s Houston branch.
The winners in Asheville will compete for the international title in Sweden.
“These guys are great at what they do,” said J.P. McLain, product support sales manager for ROMCO. “We’re proud, but not surprised that they took first place. Jeremy, Kenneth and Hector always bring their
