The Association would like to give special thanks to the Presidents Cook Team, which served up a spectacular spread at the Presidents Party and Vendor Appreciation Night at Reliant Arena.
The Presidents Cook Team is a group of men and women from Livingston and Houston that I cook with many times during the year.
Many of the cooks are members of the Polk County Area Go Texan Committee, which is affiliated with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. We cook together at many functions such as the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet, Trinity Neches Livestock Show, parties, weddings, and just about any other excuse we can find. All of the money raised at these functions goes into our scholarship fund from which we have been able to give close to $300,000 a year to the youth of Polk County.
Our favorite cooking event is the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Annual Barbecue Cook-off, which usually takes place in late February. There are close to 500 teams on the Reliant parking lot. If you would like to have a good time, you should come out to the cook-off and look up the Polk County Go Texan booth. I promise you we will treat you so many ways, you will like one of them!
My Houston friends who helped are involved in cooking for the Magnificent Seven (which is a group on the Salt Grass Trail). Also, we cook at the rodeo for various committee functions of the Breeder Greeters committee and, last but not least, Ranchers Ride, a group involved in scholarship fund-raisers.
In closing, all of these people came and brought their equipment to help cook for the Presidents Party. Like all of the other functions we do, we are not paid one red cent for the help. It is really nice to have friends like these folks.
By the way, we hope you enjoyed your meal and the entertainment provided. We certainly enjoyed doing it for you!
Polk County Commissioner Bobby Smith, Immediate Past President CJCAT
