Why Stop In Madison County???

January 8, 2008 by Sarah L

Madison County is located halfway between Dallas and Houston at the crossroads of Interstate 45 and Hwy. 21 and was organized Aug. 7, 1854. It is primarily an agricultural-based county which includes ranching, farming, poultry and many horses.
Madison County, like many other counties, is growing as people from the metropolitan area are attracted to the country environment and ideal location. Several industries have discovered our great location and adequate work force and relocated their businesses to Madison County.
Each year a number of events take place in Madison County beginning with the Madison County Fair and Rodeo in March and ending with the Christmas Parade in December. Other events consist of the historic Madison County Sidewalk Cattleman’s Association month-long celebration beginning in May which includes trail rides, a steak dinner and dance, performances by nationally known recording artists, and a barbecue cook-off. Activities are capped off with a parade and rodeo in early June.
Our Arts Council Productions are gaining recognition as a must-see. Our annual Mushroom Festival and fair on the square, a two-day event every October, is recognized throughout the state as a world-class affair.
We have a great museum rich in history; a well-equipped library with an outstanding genealogical section; The Old Historic Woodbine Hotel, which is an early traveler’s inn; and other sites of interest throughout the county.
Madison County is located on the Brazos Trail and consists of two towns: Madisonville, the county seat, and Midway.
Lake Madison is a great family spot with fishing, picnic facilities, playgrounds, basketball courts, and baseball/softball facilities. We have numerous shops on and near the square, many great restaurants, and several high quality motels to accommodate your visit.
We invite you to come and “check us out” as we are confident your stay will be an experience filled with happy memories. County Judge Arthur M. Henson
