Why STop In Val Verde County???

Val Verde County, at one time considered the “Mohair Capital of the World,” is one of the largest counties in the state and is located on the border with Mexico on the Rio Grande. If you are traveling north from Eagle Pass on U.S. Highway 277 or west on U.S. Highway 90 from San Antonio, you come upon the city of Del Rio, Val Verde County’s largest community, and an oasis in the middle of brush and mesquite country. The city of Del Rio is 156 miles west of San Antonio and is home to the pristine San Felipe Springs which provide water to the 40,000 residents and as many oak and pecan trees. Del Rio is also home to the oldest bonded winery in the state, still operated by members of the Qualia family who immigrated to this country from Italy.
Drive 10 miles northwest on U.S. Highway 90 to enjoy the waters of Amistad National Recreation Area, excellent for fishing, water sports, camping, and other recreational opportunities. Continue west on U.S. Highway 90 and visit Seminole Canyon and its ancient Indian pictographs. Stay on U.S. 90 on to the Pecos High Bridge where you can launch your boat and visit Panther Cave and its famous ancient paintings. Continue on to Langtry and stop at the Judge Roy Bean Visitors Center for a history of the old West and the law west of the Pecos.
