Leon County, known as the “Deerest Place In Texas,” has a land mass of 1,102 square miles and is located in East Central Texas halfway between Dallas and Houston on Interstate 45. Bordered on the east and west by the Trinity and Navasota rivers, Leon County’s population of 16,000 welcomes, on most weekends, between 8,000 to 10,000 visitors coming out of the cities to enjoy the peace and quiet of the country.
Leon County has abundant water supplies, rolling hills, pine trees, and heavily wooded areas to help attract the avid hunter. We have an abundance of deer, wild hogs, fish and small game such as squirrels, rabbits and various game birds.
Approximately 55 percent of the land use in Leon County is in pastureland/rangeland and cropland with major trends toward improvement in grazing land. A substantial portion is in woodlands.
Various times of the year we have special events
