Why Stop in Terrell County???

December 8, 2008 by Sarah L

Terrell County, the Cactus Capital of Texas, is located on Highway 90 halfway between El Paso and San Antonio. Terrell County has only two towns: Sanderson and Dryden. With a land mass of more than 2,300 square miles, Terrell County is the 10th largest county in the State of Texas, approximately the size of the State of Rhode Island with about 2.3 square miles of land for every person.
Our county is bordered by 56 miles of the Rio Grande River. Sanderson sits nestled in a valley of mountains. Some of the most beautiful sunsets can be seen, and never will two of them look the same.
The local government is committed to making life better in Terrell County. From 2003 to 2007, the local tax rate has been reduced from $.54 to $.24. Property values have increased by over tenfold in many areas, and with the completion of the new Border Patrol Station, we anticipate many new citizens in our towns.
We currently experience one of the lowest crime rates in the State of Texas, and our schools are some of the best in all of West Texas. Many people are moving to West Texas to escape the hustle and bustle of the cities. The Big Bend Region is one of the most attractive areas in Texas to relax and escape the busy lifestyle of the big city.
Plans for a new convention center are currently underway. All the streets in town have recently been repaved, and many major drainage issues have been controlled with attractive stone-lined channels. Our parks have all seen major overhauls, and the free public swimming pool was completely remodeled with a water playscape added.
Our growth and development recently has been wonderful, and with the Cactus Health Clinic now open five days a week with a full-time doctor on staff, I urge anyone looking to relocate to West Texas to check with us before going elsewhere. Our official Web site for more information is www.sandersontx.info.
We would love to have you as a neighbor and friend. County Judge Leo C. Smith Jr.
