Texas County Progress

The Official Publication of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas

From the President

March 1, 2007 by Sarah L

The year 2007 is well underway for those of us in county government. Our newly elected judges and commissioners are no longer newcomers. I am sure most of them have already faced their first bump in the road and may have a bruise or two to show for it. Remember, it’s the little things that get you.
I had the opportunity to attend the excellent educational seminars that were offered in January and February and speak to our judges and commissioners. The people of Texas have an outstanding group of dedicated individuals who serve them on Texas’ 254 commissioners courts. The two LBJ Schools in Austin during January were an excellent opportunity for our new judges and commissioners, and I am pleased to say that the turnout was outstanding. Congratulations to all who took the time to attend.
The V.G. Young Institute of County Government’s Annual Conference, held this year in Austin, was a big success. As always it was well attended. Once again our thanks go to Rick Avery and his staff for putting together a topnotch conference. Rick is a great friend of our organization and helps us in so many ways. Scheduling the conference in Austin during legislative years has made visiting with our legislators much easier, and many of us took the opportunity to let our voice be heard to our senators and representatives.
The first of our annual regional conferences will be held later this month. The West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association will be meeting in Kerrville March 20-23. Later this year in June, the North and East Texas Association and the South Texas Association will also conduct their annual conferences. I hope everyone will be able to attend their regional meetings for the educational opportunities and the networking
