Real County Centennial Countdown

Real County Centennial Countdown

April 2012-April 2013

As part of our Real County Centennial Countdown, each month County Progress will check in with the Real County Centennial Steering Committee. This month we join the unveiling of two public markers, one in honor of William Carr, the first county judge, and another recognizing Texas Senator Julius Real, the county’s namesake.

From left: Willis Springfield, Terry McNiel, Trapper Pannell, Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell, Nancy Horner Feely, and Skylar Blalock participated in the program, offering the invocation, leading pledges, unveiling the markers, and providing commentary. Mitchell attended on behalf of Real County Judge Garry Merritt.

Jimmy Cavender, a descendant of one of Real County’s pioneer families, shares local stories at the unveiling ceremony, conducted on July 21 with some 80 guests in attendance.

Trapper Pannell, Clair Glass and Skylar Blalock pose in front of the photos and plaques located in the Real County Courthouse hallway.

From left: Julius Neunhoffer, Felix and Lillian Real, and Marvin Neunhoffer pose under the photo and plaque of Julius Real, great-grandfather of the Neunhoffer brothers. Felix’s grandfather was Julius Real’s brother, Walter.

Trapper Pannell and Skylar Blalock unveil the county’s newest treasures and showcase their Real County Centennial T-shirts.
