Greetings! By the time you read this, the Regular Session of the 83rd Texas Legislature will be over. I hope that the legislation that is approved will best represent the positive direction of our state and local government. I know from being involved through our State Association that we all have made contributions to make county government the best that it can be. Some legislation will have direct financial impact on our counties, and we will need to plan accordingly. On that note, I would like to remind each of you that the Texas Association of Counties Post-Legislative Conference will take place Aug. 28-30 in Austin. This conference will give us the opportunity to review all of the legislation that will have an impact on county government. It will also give us time to make adjustments, if necessary, for our 2013/2014 budget year. I hope you can make plans to attend this very important conference.
Moving to another subject: I recently had the opportunity to give greetings at the West Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association Conference in Midland. While I was there, I had time to visit with the different vendors that had set up at the meeting. I would like to send a big “Thank You” to all of the vendors who come to our conferences. Without you it would be difficult to conduct a successful conference. I know it is a way that you can meet all of the commissioners court members to help market your products, but you go out of the way to do so. Thank you for contributing to the success of our conferences.
While we are talking about conferences, the South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association Conference will take place in Corpus Christi June 10-13 at the Omni Bayfront Hotel. I know that Association President and Calhoun County Commissioner Neil Fritsch has been working tirelessly to have everything ready for that conference. If you have not signed up for this meeting in Nueces County, please put it on your calendar of events to attend. I hope to see you there.
