Texas County Progress

The Official Publication of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas

From the President: November 2013

November 1, 2013 by Christi Stark

Greetings! This will be my last letter as president of our Association. My time on the CJCAT Executive Board has been deeply rewarding.

At the age of 67, you would think that your life starts to slow down, but that has not been the case in my life. I still love being involved and making things happen.  Life on this earth is short, so I believe that, health permitting, you should stay as active as you want to be.  I enjoy making a better life for my family and for other families. God put us on this earth to fellowship with each other, to share common goals, and to promote the good things in life. County Government gives us that opportunity, to make life better for everyone and to accomplish the goals that we have in making our counties a better place for our citizens. We do not always please everyone, but we should strive to please the majority.

By the time you receive this issue, our State Conference in Galveston will have concluded.  For those of you who attended, I hope the education you received will be of great value. We had excellent speakers who hopefully addressed your needs, either as a Commissioner or a Judge.  I would like to thank all of the officers of our Association and those who worked so hard to make this a great conference.   Thanks to all of the committee members for their help.

Again, thank you for allowing me to be your president this year.  Lubbock County Commissioner Patti Jones is the new president of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas.  Please join me in letting Commissioner Jones know how much we appreciate her.

I will end my letter with a few quotes on leadership:

Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes. –Peter Drucker

If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. –John Quincy Adams

When the best leader’s work is done the people say, “We did it ourselves.” –Lao Tzu

People ask the difference between a leader and a boss.  The leader leads and the boss drives. –Theodore Roosevelt

See you at the next conference!
