Texas County Progress

The Official Publication of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas

Officially Speaking: New Officer Eager to Serve

December 1, 2013 by Christi Stark

By Grover “Tiger” Worsham, Trinity County Commissioner
Newly Elected Second Vice President, County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas

Greetings from the Piney Woods of East Texas!

Let me begin by extending my thanks and appreciation to the County Judges and County Commissioners from across the state for electing me as second vice president of our organization. It is truly an honor and privilege.

I look forward to serving the coming year with President Patti Jones, Lubbock County Commissioner; First Vice President Raul Ramirez, Brooks County Judge; and Past President Roger Harmon, Johnson County Judge, who has done a great job this year. Judge Harmon led a wonderful conference in Galveston County in October. Speaking of Galveston, how about that Host Court Night? Hats off to you guys for such an amazing experience!

I know the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas has some challenges ahead of us, and I look forward to meeting them head on. I look forward to working with our wonderful general counsel, Jim Allison, and his staff, along with the staff of the Texas Association of Counties. I also appreciate our ongoing partnership with the staff of County Progress Magazine. We truly couldn’t make it without you, Becky, Julie, Amy, Moana and Leigh.

On a personal note, I would like to tell you a little about myself. I have been an employee of Trinity County for 31 years as of the end of this month. My employment has ranged from road worker to foreman, and now Commissioner for the past 17 years.

I owe most of my good fortune to the Good Lord and two good men. First and foremost is my father, C.J. Worsham, who instilled in me a strong work ethic, honesty and trustworthiness. The second is my predecessor, Commissioner Lynn Reynolds, who served for 36 years. Commissioner Reynolds taught me how to be a true public servant.

Next to the community, my family is the main driving force behind my success. Many of you have met my wife, Shannon; she loves to travel with me as we catch up with our old friends and make new ones. We have three beautiful daughters: our oldest daughter, Rachel (and her husband, Bryan Merks); our middle daughter, Laura; and our youngest, Gabriela. The true joy of our lives is our 5-year-old granddaughter, Reaghan, who makes life so much more enjoyable.

In closing, if there is any way I can assist you in the coming year, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. My email is groverworsham@co.trinity.tx.us, and my number is 936-635-0270. Thank you, and God Bless!
