Conference Close-Up: North and East Texas CJCA Annual Conference

March 23, 2020 by Sarah L

Fredonia Hotel and Convention Center│ Nacogdoches County

May 11-14, 2020

      Embracing the conference theme, Made in Texas, by Texans, the North and East Association will convene May 11 for a four-day meeting to study the latest topics affecting grassroots government. Conference classes will take place at the Fredonia Hotel and Convention Center.

Back again this year, the Association will offer early bird sessions on Monday morning, May 11, to include four hours of administrative training for Commissioners Court members.

Agenda changes this year include the following:

  • The inspirational breakfast will take place on Wednesday morning in the hotel’s restaurant, 1st City Café.
  • Thursday morning’s breakfast will include the Association’s Business Meeting and Installation of Officers.

Continuing Education

     Approval has been granted for 13 continuing education hours for County Commissioners during the regular conference sessions and four additional continuing education hours for the early bird session.

Four judicial education credit hours for Judges have been approved.

The overall agenda includes 11 hours of credit towards Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum Certification.

The V.G. Young Institute of County Government, a part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is the education program co-sponsor.

The Association leadership has crafted an agenda with the following goals in mind:

  • demonstrate new leadership skills through knowledge, training, and ideas gained from educational sessions;
  • better understand the duties of other county offices and the role they play in county government; and
  • better understand the legislative issues affecting Texas county government.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the Association Welcome Reception on Monday evening. Activities for spouses will be arranged for Tuesday and Wednesday, with final details available at www.county.org. Wednesday will also feature afternoon luncheon tournaments including dominoes, and golf.
