Conference Close-Up: 98th Annual Conference of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas

August 10, 2020 by Sarah L

Abilene Convention Center | Taylor County October 5-8

Message from the President

The saying, “Abilene – A Whole Lotta Texas Goin’ On!” will never be truer than this coming Oct. 5-8 as the 98th Annual County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas Conference will be coming to the Abilene Convention Center. This year’s conference will be an excellent opportunity for Judges and Commissioners to earn their required continuing education units while sharing information with elected officials from across the state. This will be the first time Abilene has had the privilege to host this conference, and to use the term “putting on the dog” will be an understatement.

The facility will be set up to allow social distancing and is large enough for our vendors in the Exhibit Hall to display the latest and greatest items to help county officials do our jobs better. A special event for our spouses is scheduled in downtown Abilene.

So, please accept this invitation to come to Abilene for our Annual State Conference where you will learn from our expert speakers, enjoy great food, relax, and experience genuine hospitality.

Chuck Statler

CJCAT President

Taylor County Commissioner

Commissioners Court members from across the Lone Star State will convene in Taylor County Oct. 5-8 for the 98th Annual State Conference.

Along with completing mandated education coursework, county officials will have the opportunity to safely network with peers and exhibitors, enjoy social activities, and discuss common issues facing counties during this unique time.

The State Association officers and conference support staff will continue to monitor guidance from the CDC and state and local governments on the Coronavirus. Related measures will be in place to ensure the safest environment possible.

Continuing Education

The County Judges Education Advisory Committee has approved four hours of judicial education credit for the Tuesday afternoon Judicial Education Session.

Pending approval, County Commissioners will be offered 17 hours of education credit, all of which apply to the Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum Program. Those completing this prestigious education program will be awarded special certificates at the Installation Banquet on Wednesday. Photos will be taken and made available to send to local media, along with a personalized press release.

The educational co-sponsor for this conference is the V.G. Young Institute of County Government, a part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.
