88th Annual South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association Conference

June 13 - June 16 * Nueces County

     The South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association members will convene in Nueces County June 13-June 16 for their 88th Annual Conference. This year’s education lineup includes an early bird session titled American Rescue Plan Act from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 13.  

Meeting Location, Host Hotel  

     Conference activities will take place at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel, 900 N. Shoreline Blvd. A link to book in the block at the negotiated rate of $159/night plus taxes and fees will be sent to you upon registration. The most convenient way to register for the conference is online at www.countyprogress.com; select “Conferences” at the top of the page, and scroll down to the South Texas entry. Other important information including registration fees and overflow lodging is also available at this website. 

Continuing Education 

     Pending approval, this conference will offer 12 continuing education hours for County Commissioners during the regular conference sessions and four additional continuing education hours for the early bird session. Four judicial education credit hours for Judges have already been approved.   

Scholarship Program 

     College scholarships in the amount $1,000 will be awarded to three applicants during the Annual Conference.  

     To be eligible for scholarship consideration, applicants must be a child, grandchild, or under the legal guardianship of a current Judge or Commissioner. Each of the applicants must be a current resident of a county within the 63-member county region. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior from the class of 2022 or must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a four-year university.  

Applications will be judged on the following criteria:  

  • Personal resume  
  • Letters of reference (3)  
  • Official transcript  
  • Completed application form  

     The scholarship’s funds are not derived from tax dollars collected from member dues. Instead, funding comes from previous conference proceeds, not at taxpayer expense.

     If you are interested in serving on a future South Texas Association committee, please contact President Joe Gonzalez, Nueces County Commissioner, at joe.gonzalez@nuecesco.com. Committees include Nominations, Scholarship, Resolutions, and Conference City. 

South Texas Association Board 

          If you are interested in serving on the South Texas Association Board, please contact Jackson County Judge Jill Sklar at j.sklar@co.jackson.tx.us. The Association will be selecting a Commissioner to serve as the 2022-23 Second Vice President. 

Door Prizes 

     Each county is required to bring at least one door prize. Items unique to individual counties add special interest to the prize drawings.
