Burnet County Judge Donna S. Klaeger was recently appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) which establishes standards for the care and treatment of county prisoners and the construction, maintenance and operation of county jails.
“I am very excited with the appointment of County Judge Donna Klaeger to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards Board,” said Adan Munoz Jr., executive director of the TCJS. “Judge Klaeger’s extensive county government experience and knowledge will certainly be of great benefit to the mission of TCJS.”
The TCJS Board consists of nine members who are appointed by the governor to staggered six-year terms expiring on Jan. 31 of odd-numbered years. Stanley D. Egger, Taylor County commissioner, also serves on the board.
Klaeger received required training in October and attended her first meeting in November.
“It was very interesting to learn that so many counties in the state of Texas are dealing with the very same issues as Burnet County, such as jail overcrowding, shipping of prisoners, and funding. I was encouraged to learn that the leadership of TCJS is working to develop programs to assist counties to become better informed in alternative methods.”
Klaeger serves as director of the Legacy Fund and is a past executive director of the Seriff Foundation and of the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce. She is also past director of development at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital.
Klaeger has developed many nonprofit programs in Burnet County, such as the Highland Lakes Health Partnership, Community Services Center, and The Seriff Foundation, a nonprofit resource center. She also has volunteered on many boards including the Burnet County Hospital Authority Board, Boys and Girls Club of the Highland Lakes, and Seton Highland Lakes Associates.
Her commissioner’s term on the TCJS expires Jan. 31, 2013.
