Bexar County Commissioner Sergio “Chico” Rodriguez recently presented a check from the Sequor Foundation in the amount of $12,500 to administrators at Julian C. Gallardo Elementary. The funds will be used by the San Antonio Sports Foundation (SASF) to provide an after-school sports program to students.
There are more than 4,000 Bexar County children enrolled in the SASF “Dreams for Youth” program, which provides training in six Olympic sports: volleyball, tennis, diving, fencing, badminton and team handball.
The SASF is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating sports opportunities for the community and its youth. Founded in 1984, its objectives are to bring sporting events to the city of San Antonio, develop fitness programs for kids of all ages, especially disadvantaged youth, and to support the development of quality athletic facilities.
“I’m pleased to present this check that will help support youth sports and fitness in my precinct,” Rodriguez said. “This program is a way to develop the leaders and sports stars of tomorrow,” he said. Rodriguez was instrumental in securing the funding from the Sequor Foundation through the Bexar County grant process.
