Williamson County Judge John C. Doerfler recently received the Texas Department of Transportation’s Road Hand Award.
Bob Daigh, district engineer for TxDOT, introduced Bike Behrens, executive director for TxDOT, and Lawrence Olsen, with the Texas Good Roads/Transportation Association, who presented the award to Doerfler in May during a commissioners court meeting.
The award stated: “John C. Doerfler is a certified member of the Texas road gang having proven ability and displayed the stamina to toil long, strenuous hours for Texas transportation.”
Doerfler was recognized for his part in leading the county during the last 16 years, particularly through the successful 2000 road bond program that raised $350 million to improve safety and mobility on roads in Williamson County.
Since 2000, the county has added approximately 213 miles of new roads. The program also leveraged $150 million to contribute to more than $2.5 billion to build State Highway 130, State Highway 45, 183-A and Loop 1. In addition, the bond program made it possible for the county to participate in the state’s new Pass Through Financing program that will reimburse the county $152 million for six state road projects in the county.
