Ellis County Commissioner Paul David Perry

February 14, 2024 by Julie Anderson

Boze-Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home: Longtime Ellis County Commissioner Paul David Perry, age 63, of Milford, Texas, died at home on February 11, 2024, after battling with cancer. A proud seventh-generation Texan, Paul was born in Dallas on March 28, 1960. When he was 4, he and his parents moved to Midlothian, where he grew up wandering his family’s rural property, going fishing; hunting rabbits, dove, and quail; and taking care of cattle and horses. After graduating from Midlothian High School, he attended Baylor University on academic scholarships. Paul earned a BBA with a concentration in risk management, which led him to a job in investments management after graduation.

Paul met his wife Rebecca at Baylor; they married in 1982 and soon returned to Ellis County, where they raised their eight children. He was very proud of each and every one of them and loved to share stories about their lives and accomplishments with his friends.Paul had been active in conservative politics since his college days, with a passion for defending liberty and the constitution. He was a delegate to many state Republican conventions and was a national delegate in 2012 and 2020. He served as an Ellis County Justice of the Peace in the 1990s, then re-entered public service in 2013 as Ellis County Commissioner, Pct. 3. He was dedicated to his elected position, striving to consider taxpayers’ money with the same responsibility as his own. He worked continuously throughout 18 months of chemotherapy, without sharing the details of his illness to many, hoping to continue serving his community.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Bartley Jackson Perry. Paul is survived by his wife Rebecca; children Ian Perry (Yumin) of the UAE; Heather McMillion (Chris) of Farmville, Va.; Emma Perry (Hunter Wright) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Allena Flores (Francisco) of Houston, Texas; Gillian Perry of Chicago, Ill.; Kelyn Lopez (Adrian) of Houston, Texas; Annabel Perry of Boston, Mass.; and Connor Perry of Milford, Texas; grandchildren Maddie, Oliver, and Finn McMillion and Shirley Perry; and mother Margaret Elaine Maples (Al) of Waxahachie, Texas.
