The catastrophic effects of methamphetamine abuse, including poisoned bodies, proliferation of disease and crime, and heartbroken and abandoned children, have prompted action by local elected officials like Potter County Commissioner Joe Kirkwood.
On Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the midst of hundreds of county judges and commissioners Kirkwood took a microphone and told a Washington, D.C., drug abuse expert his idea: drug testing of those applying for government services. Scott Burns, a conference speaker from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, paused and then replied, “I’m going to share that idea with the president.”
