Franklin County Commissioner Jerry Cooper

November 3, 2025 by Julie Anderson

Jerry Zack Cooper of the Hagansport Community in Franklin County passed away peacefully at his home on Sept. 21, 2025, at the age of 66. He was born in Mt. Pleasant to Jearl “Mutt” and Lucy Smith Cooper. Jerry was a lifelong resident of Franklin County. He married his high school sweetheart, Jennifer Mays, on Oct. 11, 1980, and together they built a life rooted in love, family, and service.

Jerry loved his family, his farm, and the tight-knit community of Hagansport and Franklin County as a whole. He was proudly serving as Commissioner of Franklin County Precinct One in his third term, dedicating himself to improving the lives of his neighbors and preserving the rural values he cherished. Prior to serving as Commissioner, he owned and operated Cooper Body Shop.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jennifer; their children, Jace and Sheena Cooper, Jillian and Cody Weaver, and Jacquelyn and Levi Mendez; his grandchildren, Jax Hagan Cooper, Milton Cooper, Baylin Cooper, Conway Cooper, Jaylee Weaver, Lilyana Mendez, and Ollie Mendez; his brothers, Michael Cooper and Randy Cooper; his sister, Pam and Billy Williams; his brother-in-law, Rusty Mays; a host of nieces and nephews; and extended family.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Mutt and Lucy Cooper; a brother, Ricky Cooper, and his granddaughter, Ella Grace Mendez. https://www.samharveyfuneralhome.com/obituary/Jerry-Cooper
