Wow, what a conference! Galveston County rolled out the red carpet for our 91st Annual County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas Conference. These types of events require many workers who put in a great deal of time planning and preparing. I would like to thank those who assisted our officers: Gene Terry and his staff from the Texas Association of Counties; Jim Allison and his staff at Allison, Bass & Associates, L.L.P.; Rick Avery of V. G. Young and his staff; County Progress; and the staff of Johnson County Judge Roger Harmon and Hays County Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe.
One of the highlights of the conference was the “surprise” agenda item during our annual Business Meeting. Judge Harmon deviated from the printed agenda by honoring our general counsel, Jim Allison, with a presentation for his 30 years of service to the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas. While Judge Harmon spoke of many of Jim’s accomplishments, a slide show of photos spanning those 30 years was shown to those in attendance. Thank you, Jim, for your dedication!
As I assume my duties as president of this very prestigious association, let me assure you that I will honorably represent each and every one, regardless of the size of your county.
I just began my 14th year as Precinct 4 Commissioner of Lubbock County. My youngest son, his wife, and I are currently in partnership overseeing a 1,750-acre farming operation, JJJ Farms, LLC. My oldest son lives in California where he is employed by Blue Shield of California.
For the upcoming year we, as elected officials, will have the opportunity to work with our state representatives and senators on interim studies. This will be our chance to visit one-on-one and educate lawmakers on all of our issues.
As the holiday season approaches, I wish many blessings to you and yours.
