Ochiltree County Commissioner JW DeWitt, 64, of Perryton, Texas, passed away on Sept. 28, 2026, at the age of 64.
JW was born March 5, 1962, in Pampa, Texas, to JW and Marcella DeWitt. He graduated high school in Canadian, Texas, and attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. Introduced by Beth’s brother and JW’s sister, JW and Beth dated for four years before marrying on Aug. 3, 1984, in Perryton. Their love continued to grow throughout their 42 years of marriage. During their years together, the Lord blessed their family with two sons, Jason and Blake. As the boys grew, so did his family. Jason married Stacy, and Blake married Katy Beth, both daughters that JW cherished and loved dearly. The most magical moments were when grandchildren began to arrive. Kallie, Jake, Chloe, Emma, Sam, and A’Lora were his heart and soul. Nothing inspired and gave him more joy than spending time and telling endless stories to these little ones.
Over the course of 32 years, JW built a business, DeWitt Bros. Roofing & Construction, that he was very proud of because it gave him the opportunity to reach many people and touch the lives of many young men. JW realized his life-long dream of owning land. He would joke that “it is the only thing they can’t make any more of.” He loved watching things grow and running cattle, and the quiet of the land gave him peace and a chance to recharge.
Later in life, JW was appointed and served as County Commissioner, a position that gave him the chance to meet and befriend many people he might not otherwise have known.
He was a wonderful and Godly man who poured all of himself out for others, believing in family, and adopting anyone into that family. He was a member of First Baptist Church Perryton, where he served as a Deacon. One of JW’s greatest gifts was teaching men how to love the Lord through Bible study, fishing trips, and men’s ministry events. He was also passionate about serving with Walk to Emmaus and Kairos Prison Ministries. JW served in various positions on the boards of Waka Christian Center and Museum of the Plains. He often teased his proudest appointment for Pioneer Days at the museum was parking lot attendant, but we all know he truly loved it as he could see and talk to all the people as they came and went.
He is survived by his wife, Beth DeWitt of Perryton; his son, Jason and wife Stacy DeWitt, along with grandsons, Jake and Sam DeWitt of Cypress, Texas; his son, Blake and wife Katy Beth DeWitt, along with granddaughters, Kallie, Chloe, Emma, and A’Lora DeWitt of Perryton; and many others.
The way JW lived and the way he loved was for the Christ he served. https://www.boxwellbros.com/obituary/j-w-dewitt
