By Cherokee County Commissioner Byron Underwood, Newly Appointed First Vice President, North & East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association
It’s an honor and privilege to be selected to join the great team of officers leading the North & East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association. Thank you for the vote of confidence you have placed in me. I look forward to working together on the many issues and challenges we will face in the upcoming months and years ahead.
Let me begin first and foremost by saying thank you to Leon County Commissioner Dean Player for his service to the Association and to the citizens of Leon County. We wish him the best in his retirement and his new endeavors.
I live in New Summerfield, a small East Texas town of approximately 800 people. My great-grandfather moved here in the early 1900s with his family and began his farming and ranching operation. My wife, Terri, and I, along with our sons, Grady and wife Chelsea, Justin and wife Jennifer, and Jared, still operate a plant farm and hay operation on our farm. We all love to plant seeds and watch them grow. Last, but not least, God has blessed us with four beautiful grandchildren: Kala, Cody, Dylin and Kara.
I’m in the third year of my second term as county commissioner. I entered politics because I wanted to make a difference and serve my community. I’ve always wanted to be involved in anything that I thought was beneficial for our citizens (both young and senior), and I feel like you must jump in and set the example for others to follow.
I’m thankful to the citizens of Cherokee County and to the Association for entrusting me with this responsibility, and I will work daily to represent my county and our Association with honor and dignity.
I’m EXCITED and ready to SERVE.
