Tom Green County Commissioner Sammy Farmer

January 26, 2026 by Julie Anderson

Tom Green County Commissioner Sammy Farmer died Jan. 20, 2026, at the age of 74.

Sammy’s life was first and foremost rooted in his love for Jesus Christ. His faith was not merely spoken, it was lived out daily through selfless service, humility, and genuine love for others. As a devoted deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church, Sammy led quietly but faithfully, pointing others to Christ through both his actions and his words. He believed deeply in the power of daily prayer, the importance of strong community, and the calling to love people well and unconditionally. His faith shaped every role he held as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and servant-hearted leader, and it remains one of the greatest legacies he leaves behind.

If you were Sammy’s friend, you were family from the moment you met him. He had a rare gift for giving of himself freely, always making others feel seen, valued, welcomed, and deeply cared for. His greatest joy, however, was his own family, whom he loved fiercely and faithfully. Sammy was a legendary father, leaving behind a legacy that spans generations. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Jeana Farmer. Their 53-year marriage stood as a true testament to enduring love, commitment, and partnership.

A man of service and loyalty, Sammy dedicated 30 years to serving the business, customers, and community of M.L. Leddy’s. He served as a County Commissioner in Tom Green County since 2019. He also faithfully served on the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Committee for 48 years. In each role, his leadership reflected integrity, gratitude, and a deep desire to serve others while pointing his community toward Christ.

Sammy is survived by his loving wife, Jeana Farmer; his children, Tara Kelley and husband Stephen Kelley, Bill Farmer, and Tye Farmer and wife Kelly Farmer; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous others including in-laws and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Daisy Farmer; sister Carlene English; brother Harold Farmer; brother-in-law Paul Ray English, and nephews Paul Wayne English and Stephen English.

Sammy Farmer leaves behind a legacy not measured by years, titles, or accomplishments, but by the lives he touched, the family he built, and the love he gave so selflessly. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable ache, his presence will forever live on through shared stories, enduring values, and generations yet to come.

We rejoice knowing that today, Sammy is fully restored, reunited with loved ones who went before him, and hearing the words he lived his life for: “He made a difference.” – The above is an excerpt from Sammy’s obituary, available in full at https://bit.ly/sammy-farmer
