The August issue of County Progress includes everything you need to know about your 103rd Annual State Conference set for Oct. 6-9 in Galveston. The County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas is thrilled to present Alex Weber as our keynote speaker. The only person to both host and compete on American Ninja Warrior, Weber is known for his contagious energy and genuine openness about the challenges we all face as leaders. Alex will be speaking directly to our conference theme, Above & Beyond.
Alex has positively inspired more than 5.5 million people worldwide and worked with major companies like Xerox, Apple, Fidelity, Amazon, Under Armor, LinkedIn, RE/MAX, The Los Angeles Lakers, Stanford Business, and many more! You won’t want to miss our Opening General Session.
Speaking of going Above & Beyond, many of you did just that during the recent 140-day legislative session. This month’s magazine includes a full recap of legislation that will impact county government. When all was said and done, county government fared well, in large part to those of you who served on our CJCAT Legislative Committee and those of you who kept in continual contact with your senators and representatives, communicating county impact of proposed bills.
During the writing of this column, Gov. Greg Abbott called a special session that was scheduled to begin on July 21. We will keep you apprised of any county-related impact both through the listservs and in future articles.
Service: A State of Mind
Finally, I have enjoyed traveling throughout the state and meeting and greeting many of you at your annual regional conferences. The officers and board members of your associations have outdone themselves this year, planning a full slate of courses relevant to your everyday responsibilities. I was in Corpus Christi in June, where the South Texas membership focused on Service: A State of Mind. This goes hand in hand with our State Conference theme of Above & Beyond.
I appreciate all of our officials who are serving on the boards and committees of our regional and state associations.
See you in October in Galveston!
