The Freestone County Courthouse was built in 1919 in a Classical Revival style as designed by W.R. Kaufman. Freestone County was carved from eastern Limestone County in 1850 and organized the following year. The Tobacco Settlement Permanent Trust Account Investment Advisory Committee approved $50 million for the year 2013 tobacco settlement distribution, the same as the previous year’s amount.
