Whether it’s at home, work, school, or somewhere in between, everyone can take the steps to reduce waste, save landfill space, and secure a clean and beautiful future! Join the thousands of Texans who make recycling a part of their lives by participating in Texas Recycles Day on Nov. 15, 2006. Texas Recycles Day (TRD) is a statewide campaign held annually to raise public awareness of the environmental and economic benefits of recycling.
The theme for this year is “4R Future,” a slogan that aims to increase Texans’ knowledge on how to practice the four Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rebuy) every day.
Recycling materials, reducing waste, and reusing items helps save energy, resources and landfill space. By rebuying, purchasing products made from or packaged in recycled materials, individuals can “close the loop” and create consumer demand and markets for recyclables.
Local TRD events will be taking place statewide from mid October to mid December. Events range from providing educational materials to hosting a collection for the reuse or recycling of used items.
To help educate Texans on ways to implement the four Rs into everyday life at home, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is offering free, bilingual booklets with tips on how to reduce, reuse, recycle, and rebuy. The information can easily be translated into the classroom or workplace as well to create more environmentally conscious practices. The booklet, along with free giveaway items that can be used at events, can be ordered when you register your TRD activity.
“By practicing the four Rs every day, you are having a direct impact on creating a sustainable environment, and you are serving as an example for future generations to do the same,” said Debbie Johnston, Keep Texas Beautiful president.
Any individual, community, school, company or governmental entity can conduct a Texas Recycles Day event, no matter what the size!
