The first official event of Atascosa County’s yearlong sesquicentennial celebration kicked-off, literally, with the Texan Tux ‘N Boots Ball in late January at St. Andrew’s Hall.
More than 300 folks gathered for the historical event, and Sesquicentennial Association co-chairs Dorothy Manning and Mark Cude were elated with the crowd. The Sesquicentennial Association formed in 2003 through the Atascosa County Historical Commission for the very purpose of planning the celebration. More than 80 members have joined in at some point in time to offer their help.
To help celebrate the county’s 150 years, the Atascosa County Clerk’s Office will be issuing special marriage certificates featuring a commemorative poster.
A special commemorative magazine is in production. Events in early September and October will conclude the celebration.
