April was wet for most of Central Texas; in fact, the first three days were the only rainless days for the entire month. Despite the rainy conditions, water trucks are proving to be useful in road maintenance throughout the region.
Bastrop County Precinct 1 road foreman Jimmy Hanna keeps a 2,000-gallon water truck by Niece Equipment in the county yard and reports consistent use of the truck despite the wet conditions.
“We probably average five loads a week for maintenance of our roads,” Hanna said. Lucas Hernandez customarily operates the Niece Equipment freightliner FL70 water truck to keep dust down, especially in dry conditions.
In addition to regular maintenance demands, heavy rains have brought flood damage to roads and bridges throughout the region and extra work to county road foremen
