Brooks County, home of the Fightin’ Jerseys and the Heart’s Delight, was created in 1911 due to the hard work of its namesake, James Abijah Brooks.
The county is located along the Chisholm Trail in the most central point of the southern tip of Texas.
Visit the famous Don Pedrito Shrine and the Heritage Museum containing the Ranger Room. If visiting in the spring, take in some of the most spectacular scenes of wildflowers along the county roads and highways. Stop by to see one of our baseball games played by our Jersey team, which has attended the state tournament several times and won the state championship in 1991, or play a round of golf at the Municipal Golf Course.
Annual events held throughout the year consist of the Brooks County Fair conducted in March, Fiesta Ranchera held in May, Fiesta del Campo in October sponsored by the Falfurrias Chamber of Commerce, and the Watermelon Round Up in June sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Department.
Brooks County has been known as an agricultural mecca. The county has produced beef, dairy products such as the famous Falfurrias Butter, and vegetable and fruit crops. The county also is known as one of the best places for hunting and fishing, attracting some of the most famous guests to the community including Brett Farve, former Pres. George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and current President George W. Bush.
The Brooks County seat is Falfurrias. Other communities encompassed within county lines are Encino, Rachal and La Parrita.
