Clay County is a rural ranching county located northwest of the Metroplex along the Red River with 1,100 square miles and only 11,000 people, meaning there are miles and miles of open nature to view.
Henrietta serves as the county seat with several restored buildings around the courthouse square. The 1880s jail is now the Clay County Museum, while the 1895 Courthouse still stands as the temple of justice.
Henrietta is home to a modern, county-owned hospital which provides excellent care to our residents, and an extended care center for our elderly.
Clay County is also home to Lake Arrowhead, a 5,000-acre lake that serves as a major attraction for summer recreation.
But most of all, Clay County has good, caring people. Our prime example of Clay County residents and their dedication to service is H.C. Zachry. The publisher of County Progress grew up in Clay County and is the son of longtime County Commissioner Claude Zachry.
