Why Stop In Culberson County???

February 1, 2006 by admin

From early wagon days to futuristic space flight, Culberson County has and will continue to serve as the hub of travel through the Mountain Trail Region of Far West Texas. Home of the Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Culberson County offers majestic views from the highest peak in the state and awesome scenic drives through both mountain and valley vistas.
Serving as the official home and Crossroads of the Texas Mountain Trail (the intersection of Interstates 10/20 and Highways 54 and 90), Van Horn, the county seat, offers great travel accommodations at 18 different hotels and 15 restaurants, serving everything from Dairy Queen hamburgers to the finer fare offered in our Mexican food and family-friendly restaurants. Chuy’s Spanish Inn is the favorite of John Madden who stops here on his frequent trips across the country to announce Monday Night Football games. Favorite tourist spots like Carlsbad Caverns, Fort Davis, and McDonald Observatory are an easy day-trip-away from Van Horn.
The Clark Hotel Museum is the official story-telling center with history as rich as the last Indian battle fought in the state of Texas and as intriguing as wealthy land owners who maintained their status through not-so-honest means. Receive an official tour from museum curator and chief volunteer Robert Stuckey for an especially captivating tale.
Culberson County is the home of the very first wind power farm constructed in the state of Texas, recent oil and gas exploration activities, and two of the largest pecan-farming activities in the South. Blue Origin, a private space exploration venture of Amazon.com owner Jeff Bezos, will launch from Culberson County and promises exploration opportunities into space in the near future.
Mountain View Golf Course is nestled in the foothills of neighboring mountains and offers 360-degree views of eight different mountain ranges from its nine-hole course.
Red Rock Ranch Tours, a private touring operation, offers guided driving or hiking tours to Indian and wildlife homelands, natural exposures of Precambrian sandstone, and world class examples of Indian petroglyphs.
For information and help in planning your travels in and around Culberson County, call 1-866-4A-HOWDY, or visit www.vanhorntexas.org.
