Traveling north on U.S. Highway 75 from Dallas takes you to beautiful Grayson County. More than 113,000 residents live in the countys 954 square miles. The county seat, Sherman, is only about 65 miles north of Dallas.
Grayson County is typified by gentle, rolling hills that produce post oak, bois darc, elm and walnut trees as well as many types of grasses.
The northern border of the county is the Red River and Lake Texoma, offering visitors and residents outstanding opportunities for water sports including fishing, skiing, camping, parasailing, as well as the Hagerman Wildlife Refuge.
Our vibrant cities and towns are rich in history. Denison recently has been recognized for its outstanding art community. The city is home to Grayson County Frontier Village and its 19 restored rustic buildings dating from 1840 to 1900.
Sherman, near the geographic center of the county, is becoming the retail center of a trade area that reaches into surrounding counties including southern Oklahoma. Sherman is also the location of numerous national and international manufacturing firms that produce electronics, computer parts, food and other important materials.
While Sherman and Denison are the two largest communities in the county, other smaller communities have the same rich and colorful histories, detailed in local museums and historic landmarks. Often, the small communities represent down-home type dining and shopping opportunities for those who have the interest.
