Hansford County is located at the very top center of the Panhandle. When the Texas map is nailed to the wall, Hansford County supports the rest of the state. Spearman is home to one of the largest water windmill exhibits in the state. There are refurbished mills from all over the country. To complement these, Hansford County has 69 wind turbines with almost 200 more under contract. Another attraction is the Alligator Farm that has registered guests from all over the United States and many foreign countries. It also boasts one of the tallest metal giraffes you have ever seen.
If you like Western history, you will be pleased with the Stationmaster’s House Museum. With displays from local pioneers starting in the 1860s, you can browse for hours. By appointment, museum board members can answer your questions about our late-1800 trading posts and military posts. Scouts working for the U. S. Cavalry in Hansford County included William F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody and Wild Bill Hickock.
Palo Duro Lake is a relatively new lake with great fishing, including bass and walleye. There are plenty of birds and wildlife to view. A scenic camping area and tranquil nature trail lure many to the lake.
The city of Spearman just finished a new skateboard park that has had rave reviews from “boarders” from all across the country. The park was helped along with a grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation (world champion skateboarder).
