Moore County, the third-fastest growing county among the 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle, abounds with thousands of acres of corn, wheat, sorghum and more than 53,000 acres of harvested cotton. In fact, the Moore County Gin is one of the newest constructed cotton gins in the state of Texas.
In the good ole’ summertime, hundreds of Panhandle residents flock to one of the most modern water parks in Texas, Treasure Island Waterpark located in Sunray, also home of the world’s longest country grain elevator which stretches over a quarter of a mile.
Dumas, the county seat, is known for its annual June Dogie Days Celebration which attracts some 6,000 participants. Sponsored by the Dumas Noon Lions Club, the celebration features a real pit barbecue and the chance to win a new vehicle courtesy of a popular Dogie Days fund-raiser. Dumas is also home of the “Ding Dong Daddy”, a mythical character made famous by a big band era songwriter named Phil Baxter.
