Why Stop In Nueces County???

August 30, 2005 by Sarah L

A population of more than 300,000 makes Nueces County the 12th-largest county in the state. Its location on the Gulf Coast gives visitors choices such as deep-sea fishing from the “village” of Port Aransas, sandy beaches in county parks and the Padre Island National Seashore, and the busy harbor and terminals of the Port of Corpus Christi, where huge oil tankers come and go.
Corpus Christi Bay is a popular tourist locale featuring a series of miradores (shaded lookouts) along the downtown seawall. That’s also the location of the much-visited memorial statue of Hispanic singer “Selena.”
Reflecting the area’s intimate association with the sea, this is the permanent mooring spot of the three replicas of the ships used by Christopher Columbus, as well as the home of the “Blue Ghost,” the World War II aircraft carrier USS Lexington.
Family recreation opportunities are plentiful, and competitors in kite-boarding and windsurfing come for the annual Velocity Games. Nature-lovers can visit the Texas State Aquarium, learn about restoration of the endangered Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle on Padre Island, and observe bird species from hawks to whooping cranes near Corpus Christi, “America’s birdiest city.”
If outdoor activities are not your thing, sports fans can find year-round entertainment in the area. For a variety of vacation possibilities, get away to Nueces County – you’ll be welcome. James Michael ?Mike? Reed, Human Resources analyst
