Rockwall County
Out of 254 counties in the State of Texas, why in the world would one want to stop in Rockwall County, the smallest county in the Lone Star State?
Yes, we are geographically small, but in no way are we a county of minimums! Near the top in the state and the nation in growth and per capital income, the county has grown from 25,000 in 1990, to 43,000 in 2000, to 79,000 in 2010. Today the population is estimated at 85,000.
I-30, a major highway to the east and north, splits the county. Coming 25 miles from Dallas on this road, the first thing one sees in the county is beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard, a major sailing and fishing lake. Sitting on its eastern shore right off the highway is the Hilton Dallas/Rockwall Lakefront resort hotel located in the middle of “The Harbor” restaurant and shopping district. How about lunch or dinner on your way to the east or north?
Two miles to the east on I-30 is the new 55,000-square-foot county library and a 135,000-square-foot new courthouse alongside our award-winning Veterans Memorial. All of these are worth the time to visit.
Four more miles down the road and you come to the fastest growing city in the state, Fate, which has gone from 459 people in 2000 to more than 10,000 today. New houses, new schools, new roads, and new commercial businesses, there ready for the many people moving to the Dallas area but wanting to “live out in the country.”
Four more miles to the east and you pass through Royse City on your way out of the county. A short but great visit if you decide to stop. We’ll see you when you get here!
