103rd Annual CJCAT State Conference

August 4, 2025 by Julie Anderson

County Judges and Commissioners from across the Lone Star State are invited to Galveston Oct. 6-9 for the 103rd Annual Conference of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas. Conference classes will take place at the Galveston Island Convention Center, 5600 Seawall Blvd.

The V.G. Young Institute of County Government, a part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, will serve as the education co-sponsor of the conference, hosted by the Galveston County Commissioners Court.

The four-day meeting will address timely issues including new laws passed by the Texas Legislature, website ADA rules and regulations, the basics of artificial intelligence, indigent health care, the importance of heavy equipment training, tax abatements, and more.

Social activities will allow for plenty of opportunities to fellowship with your peers including the President’s Party and Exhibitor Appreciation Night on Monday and Galveston County’s Host Court Night on Tuesday. Wednesday will feature the Luncheon Banquet followed by leisure activities including 42, cornhole, a fishing excursion, and the Bobby Smith Memorial Golf Tournament.

Continuing Education – Advanced Curriculum

Seventeen hours of continuing education credit for County Commissioners have been approved; all 17 hours are part of the Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum Program, as designated by the blue logos on the accompanying agenda. Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum completion certificates will be awarded Wednesday during the Luncheon Banquet.

The County Judges Education Advisory Committee has approved four hours of judicial education credit for Tuesday afternoon’s Judicial Education Session. County Judges may also receive credit (nonjudicial) toward Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum certification.
