June 26 - June 29 * Bexar County | Conference Site: JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa

The South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association members will convene in Bexar County June 26-29 for their 89th Annual Conference. This year’s education lineup includes an Early Bird Session on County Budgeting from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 26.

Registration, Meeting Location, Lodging

You may register for this conference at www.countyprogress.com; select “Conferences” at the top of the page, click on “South Texas,” and then click “County Official Registration.” Conference activities will take place at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa. As of press time, the hotel room block at this location was sold out. Nearby properties are listed at the website referenced above.

Continuing Education

Pending approval, this conference will offer 12 continuing education hours for County Commissioners during the regular conference sessions and four additional continuing education hours for the early bird session. Four judicial education credit hours for Judges have already been approved.

Scholarship Program

College scholarships in the amount $1,000 will be awarded to three applicants during the Annual Conference.

To be eligible for scholarship consideration, applicants must be a child, grandchild, or under the legal guardianship of a current Judge or Commissioner. Each of the applicants must be a current resident of a county within the 63-member county region. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior from the class of 2023 or must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at a four-year university.

Applications will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Personal resume
  • Letters of reference (3)
  • Official transcript
  • Completed application form

The scholarship’s funds are not derived from tax dollars collected from member dues. Instead, funding comes from previous conference proceeds, not at taxpayer expense.

All entries are to be received or postmarked by May 19, 5 p.m. The scholarship form is available at the website referenced above.

Committee Appointments

If you are interested in serving on a future South Texas Association committee, please contact President Jill Sklar, Jackson County Judge, at j.sklar@co.jackson.tx.us. Committees include Nominations, Scholarship, Resolutions, and Conference City.

Door Prizes

Each county is required to bring at least one door prize. Items unique to individual counties add special interest to the prize drawings.
